How can I take care of my teeth if I'm wearing braces or a retainer?
Always brush your teeth after every meal and floss at least once a day, using toothpaste with fluoride to help prevent cavities—ask your dentist if you should also use a fluoride rinse. If you remove your retainer to eat, make sure to clean your teeth first and store the retainer safely in its case to avoid loss or damage. Keep your retainer clean by brushing it gently with toothpaste or soaking it in denture cleaner as instructed, but never place it in boiling water or a dishwasher. During treatment, limit sugary foods to reduce plaque buildup and the risk of cavities, and avoid sticky, chewy, or hard foods, as well as anything that can get stuck in your braces. Finally, remember to schedule regular dental checkups every six months to maintain a healthy smile throughout your treatment.

In 1998, Dr. Poorman received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry. He later earned a two-year Certificate in Pediatrics from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Certified in IntraOral Sedation, he maintains high standards in sedation monitoring and emergency equipment. He’s affiliated with the Texas Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and American Dental Association.
Dr. Marites Del Mundo
Dr. Marites Del Mundo (or Dr. D as she is fondly called by her patients) received her Doctorate of Dental Medicine Degree from the University of the Philippines in 1993 where she graduated top of her class and received the Most Outstanding Dental Graduate Award given by the International College of Dentists. In 1996, she completed her 2-year orthodontic residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where she earned a Certificate in Orthodontics as well as a Master of Science Degree in Dentistry.
During her free time, Dr. Del Mundo enjoys reading books and loves spending time with her family. She also loves to travel and watch Broadway musicals.
She is an active member of The American Association of Orthodontics (AAO), American Dental Association (ADA) and Texas Dental association (TDA).
