Do you have questions? We have answers! Speaking with our professional team, we’ve noticed that certain questions or concerns come up repeatedly during consultations and from almost every patient (and their parents). That’s why we decided to gather them all—questions and answers—into one post. Knowledge is health!
A common question we get is how often to brush your teeth and the correct way to do it. The answer is simple: we recommend brushing your teeth at least twice a day, in the morning and before bed; however, a third brushing in the afternoon is also highly advisable. It’s crucial not to go to bed without brushing your teeth since many processes occur in the mouth while we sleep, making cleanliness essential.
As for the correct brushing technique, it’s important to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and perform gentle, circular motions. The belief that brushing harder leaves your mouth cleaner is a misconception. Brushing too hard can damage the gums and cause serious issues. Be sure to brush all surfaces of the teeth, including the tongue and gums.
Another frequent question is: “Is flossing really necessary?” And our professional team’s answer is a resounding yes: flossing is essential. It helps remove plaque and food particles between the teeth and below the gum line, where the toothbrush cannot reach.
Regarding how often to visit the dentist and when to schedule the first visit, the ideal is to have check-ups at least twice a year. For children, the first dental visit is recommended around the first year of age or when the first tooth appears.
This way, problems can be addressed early and resolved easily. Oral and dental diseases can often be prevented with simple habit changes, adding a product to your routine, or a minor dental intervention. However, an undetected disease can lead to extensive and costly treatment.
